Head of "Svoboda" party

July 2 2014 Oleh Tiahnybok: Martial law should be introduced in the East of Ukraine, because it is an effective method to counter the terrorists and will show the Ukrainian society that the Government is doing everything to defeat the invaders

"The fraction of "Svoboda" supports the National Security and Defence Council's decision to re-start the anti-terrorist operation. However, we are surprised that the Parliament has not received from the President and the National Security Council a request to introduce Martial law in Luhansk and Donetsk regions. We believe that Martial law in those areas will show the Ukrainian society that the Government is doing everything possible to defeat the invader." - said the Leader of Svoboda Oleh Tiahnybok at the Parliament on 1 July 2014.

Leader of the nationalists also expressed his protest against the so-called "truce", which was recently declared, because, as expected, it did not bring any positive results: no hostages were freed, attacks of terrorists did not ceased, and even more frequently than before, prosecutions on ethnic grounds continue in the Ukrainian Donbas. Tiahnybok then mentioned the death Luhansk's head of "Prosvita" Professor Volodymyr Semystyah, who was captured and died in the dungeons of terrorists.

The parliamentarian stressed that nationalists do not support negotiations with terrorists. Tiahnybok also stressed that negotiations with participation of pro-Russian politicians Medvedchuk and Shufrych only helped terrorists to strengthen their positions and transport heavy equipment and weapons from Russia to Ukraine, which they will use against our Army.

"We would also like to appeal to our European partners: we do not understand the decision about stopping sanctions against Russia. Where is the third wave of sanctions against Moscow, which should force the Kremlin to withdraw from Ukraine? How can we explain the decision of the Austrian government about re-starting the construction of "South Stream" with Moscow? Why Austria hosts Putin as distinguished guest, in spite of the situation in Ukraine? Moreover, we do not understand why German Chancellor insists on involvement of Medvedchuk in negotiations. We also do not understand the statements made by some Italian MPs on termination of sanctions against Russia. In today's circumstances, when what is occurring in Ukraine is a threat to the security of the whole Europe, not onlky our country, we would appreciate your support "- said Oleh Tiahnybok.

The Leader of "Svoboda" emphasized that in addition to extremely important laws that are needed to counter the invaders, Parliament still has to complete the process of lustration in Ukraine: "We demand to consider our Bill on lustration and the Law to ban the communist ideology. We also request from the Ministry of Justice to ban the Communist Party and the Party of Regions as such organisations that are engaged in separatist, anti-Ukrainian and terrorist activity.".
